The American Elm U. americana cultivar Morden http://www.horticopia.com/hortpix/html/pb12764.htm was selected by the Dominion Experimental Farm, Morden, Manitoba, in 1939 on account of its ability to withstand severe ice storms without breakage. Fast-growing and large, it was also described as "rather coarse". The tree was first marketed by the Patmore Nurseries, Brandon, Manitoba, circa 1948, but is not known (2006) to remain in commercial cultivation.
Morden is a place in the London Borough of Merton. It is located approximately 10 miles (16.1 km) South-southwest of central London between Merton Park (to the north), Mitcham (to the east), Sutton (to the south) and Worcester Park (to the west).
