Procedure used to decrease the number of fetuses a woman carries and improve the survival chances of the remaining fetuses. Some pregnancy reductions occur naturally.
Also known as selective reduction. A procedure to reduce the number of fetuses in the uterus. This procedure may be considered for women who are pregnant with multiple fetuses. As the risk of extreme premature delivery, miscarriage (spontaneous abortion), and other problems increases with the number of fetuses present, this procedure may be performed in an attempt to prevent the entire pregnancy from aborting.
