Prophet; pl. is ambiyaa ; the office of nabi is called nubuwat .
Prophet; a messenger of God who delivers a new scripture. Muhammad was the final Nabi, because he deliverd the final scripture.
The meaning of the word Nabi is a prophet. To be a prophet he should receive a revelation from Allah that does not necessarily mean a revealed book. When a prophet is instructed to deliver his message to a certain group of people, he is a messenger. It is stated in the Qur'an that there are no more prophets and messengers after Muhammad (S.A.W.).
In the translation of this book, the word Nabi is used to refer to the messenger of Allah and it is not the same word as the ‘prophet'. In order to be a prophet, one should receive a revelation from Allah, but this revelation need not come from within a book.
Prophet (pl. Anbiya, Nabiyyin)
"One who announces" or "One who is called". Prophet. In the Bible, God's instructions are communicated to the people through prophets. Rabbinic tradition holds that the days of prophets are over, and that all communication since antiquity comes through discussion of sources rather than through new revelations.
