Species of pacific salmon commonly 18-24 inches in length with a streamlined shape, red stripe on side and distinctive spotting on back. Steelhead spawn in mid-winter, early spring (Jan. - April) and may return to the ocean after laying their eggs. They can be distinguished from the Coho by the spotting on their backs as well as by the red stripe on their sides.
Anadromous rainbow trout--spends much of its life in the ocean but returns to freshwater to spawn.
