tokamak is the Russian name given to a large, doughnut-shaped fusion device that is surrounded by electrical coils which produce intense magnetic fields to confine a hot, D-T fuel plasma.
a doughnut-shaped chamber used in fusion research; a plasma is heated and confined in a magnetic bottle
an axisymmetrical toroidal vacuum chamber in which plasma is contained and brought to extremely high temperatures by means of interacting electrical and magnetic fields
an example of a device that operates upon the principles of magnetic confinement
a toroidal plasma confinement device, resembling a doughnut in shape
a torus-shaped device to contain plasma by means of strong magnetic fields
An acronym derived from the Russian words for toroidal magnetic confinement.
A tokamak is a machine producing a toroidal (doughnut-shaped) magnetic field for confining a plasma. It is one of several types of magnetic confinement devices and the leading candidate for producing fusion energy. The term tokamak is a transliteration of the Russian word Токамак which itself comes from the Russian words: "Ñ‚Ð¾Ñ€Ð¾Ð¸Ð´Ð°Ð»ÑŒÐ½Ð°Ñ ÐºÐ°Ð¼ÐµÑ€Ð° в магнитных катушках" (toroidal'naya kamera v magnitnykh katushkakh — toroidal chamber in magnetic coils).
Tokamak is a fictional supervillain published by DC Comics. He first appeared in Fury of Firestorm #15 (August 1983), and was created by Gerry Conway and Pat Broderick. He is named after the Tokamak, part of a nuclear fusion reactor.
