From it's Greek origins, sin means to miss the mark. When an archer's arrow missed his target, he sinned. To sin is to make a mistake. God does not punish us for our sins, though our mistakes may have consequences. Our mistakes or sins first occur in mind. When we correct our error thinking we have forgiven or saved ourselves.
