A speaker system mounted in a sealed enclosure. The internal air loading adds damping and acoustical stiffness at low frequencies where the wavelength is larger than the enclosure. [Go to source
A sealed speaker enclosure that makes use of the air behind a woofer to control cone movement.
A type of loudspeaker enclosure design, made popular by the Acoustic Research AR3 among others. The cone of a driver is suspended by a "surround" (see the driver cutaway drawing) which acts like a spring, to restore the cone to its central position. The air in a sealed enclosure also acts like a spring, and is used as such in this design. The result is a lower resonant frequency, and lower bass, than would otherwise be obtainable. These designs also typically use an enclosure filling material that makes the enclosure act larger than it really is. See the section on Thiele-Small analysis for greater detail.
A type of loudspeaker in which the motion of the woofer cone is stabilized by air pressure within the sealed cabinet.
A type of speaker cabinet which is sealed to control the action of its woofer and prevent the leakage of air.
A type of speaker enclosure that uses a sealed box to provide tight, accurate bass response. It gives up some efficiency to provide bass that is more accurate and controlled, so compared to a bass reflex design, it may require more amplifier power to play at the same volume level. See also bass reflex.
A sealed speaker enclosure that uses the air trapped in the cabinet as a reinforcing spring to help control the motion of the woofer(s).
A sealed or closed box speaker enclosure.
A type of speaker that uses a sealed enclosure in which the air trapped behind a woofer provides its restoring force. This system is known for tight bass and low distortion.
A closed box loudspeaker enclosure in which the compliance (spring) of the air inside the box is a substantial portion of the total compliance of the system, including the mechanical suspension of the woofer. See: Suspension, Compliance
The acoustic-suspension woofer is a solution to the problem of bass distortion in loudspeakers caused by non-linear, stiff mechanical suspensions in conventional loudspeakers.
