Also known as digital cash, it is a system for the payment of goods or services by transmitting a unique number (like dollar bill serial numbers) from one computer to another. Each certificate is issued by a bank and represents a specified sum of real money. To obtain such a certificate, open an account at your bank; when purchasing such certificates, the money is withdrawn from this account. One of the key features of digital cash is that, like real cash, it is anonymous and reusable.
