Deaf President Now. In 1988, Gallaudet University was the site of a student-led protest that today is known as Deaf President Now, or simply DPN. The protestors were fighting for the selection of a deaf person to run the university. When this didn't happen, the supporters of DPN led a remarkably focused, non-violent and effective protest, which resulted in I. King Jordan becoming the first Deaf president of Gallaudet. In addition, DPN raised the nation's conciousness of the rights and abilities of deaf and hard of hearing people.
Diabetic peripheral neuropathy. DPN is a nerve pain problem that some people with diabetes have. "Peripheral" (per-IF-er-al) refers to the parts of the body that are farthest away from the center of your body, like your arms, legs, fingers and toes. "Neuropathy" (Nur-AH-pa-thee) means nerve problems. The nerve damage can result in a burning, tingling, sharp, stabbing pain.

Deferred Purchase Note. A new issue whose terms call for payment of a percentage (for example 25%) of the issue price on the normal closing date with the remaining percentage paid at a future date, usually six months to one year later. Failure to make the second payment results in forfeiture of the initial payment.
Designated Provider Network. DPNs are modified point-of-service plans. Patients can obtain services from any primary care physician. A primary care referral is required for specialty services to be reimbursed at maximum plan benefit levels.
