Post Office Protocol. One of two Internet mail server protocols. The POP server receives and stores the email text files. When checking email for new messages received, the email client (a software utility on your computer) logs onto the POP server and asks to see the messages in a mailbox.
POP stands for Post Office Protocol. When someone sends you an e-mail, it is sent to the ComBase POP server where it is then stored until you check your mail, at which time it is moved from the ComBase server to your local computer.
