One of the classes of title the Land Registry may approve. Often approved when the owner claims to have lost the title deeds, or to have acquired ownership by adverse possession.
The description given by the Land Registry to the title or ownership of a property where the registry is not entirely satisfied as to the vendor's ownership of the property due to a discrepancy. It is satisfied only that the person is lawfully in possession of the property, as opposed to title absolute and good leasehold title.

this is the title to land which a person gains through the process known as adverse possession or "squatters rights". For a possessory title to be gained the person must have been in occupation of the land in question for at least 12 years, to have done so openly and not during that time to have had a complaint from the true owner nor acknowledged the right of any other person to the land.
An occupier of land can register this title at the Land Registry. The occupier then has "squatter's rights" to the land if his position is unchallenged for 12 years following the registration.
An occupier of land can register this type of title at the Land Registry. If unchallenged after 12 years, the occupier has an absolute right to the land (‘squatter's rights'). The land registry will not convert possessory to absolute title, however, until 15 years after registration of the former.
