Tires that have been used at least once and are saved for further racing. A lap or two is enough to "scuff" them in. Most often used in qualifying.
A term used in referring to tires that have been used just enough to have the newness taken off of the contact surface. These “scuffs†have also gone through a heating and cooling process from their first use which can make the rubber compound tougher and longer lasting.
These are tires that have been used, but are still good. Normally, they are run during a practice session for only one or two laps.
