Sites of Special Scientific Interest can be either of biological or geological (or mixed) interest, notified by English Nature under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 (as amended). More information about London's 36 SSSIs can be found on English Nature's website. All the London area is included within Sites of Metropolitan Importance for Nature Conservation.
