Aggregation of IP network addresses advertised as a single classless network address. TCP/IP A suite of data communication protocols. Its name comes from two of the more important protocols in the suite: the Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) and the Internet Protocol (IP). It forms the basis of Internet traffic.
Alberta SuperNet is an unprecedented endeavour to provide affordable high-speed network connectivity and Internet access to all universities, school boards, libraries, hospitals, provincial government buildings and regional health authorities throughout the province. At the same time, SuperNet will ensure businesses and residences in 422 communities will have access to high-speed Internet at competitive rates.
Aggregation of IP network addresses advertised as a single classless network address. For example, given four Class C IP networks---192.0.8.0, 192.0.9.0, 192.0.10.0 and 192.0.11.0---each having the intrinsic network mask of 255.255.255.0, one can advertise the address 192.0.8.0 with a subnet mask of 255.255.252.0.
Supernetting is synonymous with Classless Inter-Domain Routing (CIDR) although CIDR is rather just the concept that is implemented when subnetting or supernetting.
