a socially awkward or tactless act
a false step or a social blunder
A faux pas, (IPA , plural: faux pas ) (French for false step) is a violation of accepted, although unwritten, social rules. Faux pas vary widely from culture to culture and what is considered good manners in one culture can be considered a faux pas in another. For example, in English-speaking Western countries it is usually considered a nice gesture to bring a bottle of wine when going to someone's house for dinner.
Faux Pas (pronounced "fox paws" when referring to the strip, as opposed to the conventional pronunciation) is a comic strip created by Robert and Margaret Carspecken of R&M Creative Endeavors. The name is a play on the French phrase "faux pas" , a social blunder, reflecting the demeanour of the strip's characters. The central characters are the foxes Randy and Cindy.
Faux Pas is the alias of Tim Shiel, a producer based in Melbourne, Australia who makes layered electronic music that draws on samples, electronica and live instrumentation.
