A mathematical expression of the rate of deaths of fish due to fishing. Fishing mortality is often expressed as a rate that indicates the percentage of the population caught in a year; e.g. a fishing mortality rate of 0.2 implies that approximately 20 per cent of the population will be removed in a year due to fishing.
the rate of deaths of fish due to fishing. The rate indicates the percentage of the population caught in a year; for example, a fishing mortality rate of 0.3 implies that e-0.3 of the population—about 35%—is being removed in a year by fishing (see also mortality, natural mortality).
A measurement of the rate of removal of fish from a population by fishing. Fishing mortality can be reported as either annual or instantaneous. Annual mortality is the percentage of fish dying in one year. Instantaneous is that percentage of fish dying at any one time. The acceptable rates of fishing mortality may vary from species to species.
The death of aquatic animals resulting from fishing efforts by man.
