The volume of space around the Sun which contains the charged particles and magnetic field carried in the solar wind. Its outer boundary (which has never been crossed) is called the heliopause and marks the beginning of interstellar space. This is thought to be 50 - 100 AU from the Sun.
The heliosphere is the region within the galaxy where the Sun's magnetic field dominates over magnetic fields from other sources in the galaxy. It is analogous, in some respects, to the description of the Earth's magnetosphere in relation to the Sun. Back to the top.
The entire large bubble of the Sun's influence that stretches far beyond the major planets
The area in space that contains our solar system, solar wind, and the entire solar magnetic field. It extends well beyond the orbit of Pluto, out to the heliopause. More about the heliosphere...
The region where the Solar Wind blows away from the Sun, carrying the interplanetary magnetic field (created from the magnetic field of the Sun) throughout the Solar System. A region perhaps 200 Astronomical Units in diameter, within which the interplanetary magnetic field, and the motion of the Solar Wind, is paramount.
The region in space that extends to the heliopause. The heliosphere is the cavity around the Sun in the local interstellar medium that is produced by the solar wind. The heliosphere contains most of the solar system, but not the most distant comets, such as in the Oort cloud.
a vast region around the sun dominated by the solar wind
A huge magnetic bubble containing the solar wind and the entire solar magnetic field. At the outermost boundary of the heliosphere, our solar wind meets the interstellar medium, a plasma that permeates our Milky Way galaxy. Scientists estimate that this boundary is between 9 and 15 billion kilometers away from the Sun, far beyond the orbits of all the planets. We should find out for certain sometime in the next century when one or more spacecraft - Voyagers 1 and 2 and Pioneers 10 and 11 - leave the heliosphere and enter interstellar space.
The region of the Sun's influence, including the Sun and the interplanetary medium.
space within the boundary of the heliopause containing the sun and other solar systems.
The region around the Sun where the solar wind dominates over the interstellar medium.
The vast region starting at the Sun's surface and extending to the limits of the solar system, well beyond the orbits of the most distant planets. See also: The Dynamic Sun.
a region in space where the solar magnetic field is active. Its intensity decreases progressively as the distance from the Sun becomes greater, up to a region called Heliopause.
The region inside the heliopause containing the sun and solar system.
The space within the broundary of the heliopause containing the Sun and solar system.
The heliosphere is an area centered around the Sun over which the effect of the solar wind extends. The heliosphere extends beyond the orbit of Pluto.
The heliosphere is a bubble in space produced by the solar wind. Although electrically neutral atoms from interstellar space can penetrate this bubble, virtually all of the material in the heliosphere emanates from the Sun itself.
