An Intensive Care Unit (ICU) or Critical Care Unit (CCU) is a specialised facility in a hospital that provides intensive care medicine. The concept was thought up by Dr. William Mosenthal, a surgeon at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Hanover NH.
