rockfall occurs on all steep slopes. It is caused by other climbers or by the continual erosion of the rock on a mountainside resulting from freezing, thawing, and heavy rain; grazing animals; or enemy action.
Rockfall refers to quantities of rock falling freely from a cliff face. It is commonly caused by undercutting, either from wave action or badly planned construction work cutting away too much at the slope. The pieces of rock collect at the bottom creating a talus or scree.
