An aeroplane sideslips when it flies out of balance so that the nose is not pointing in the direction of travel. A sideslip may be accidental or deliberate. It can be created by the pilot banking the aeroplane and then applying opposite rudder, and is a useful way of losing height rapidly without increasing speed (because a large amount of drag is produced).
