A plane is a hand tool designed to trim wood by shaving it. An angled blade extends below the bottom edge of the tool so that it shaves the wood as it is drawn across its surface. Planing with the grain of the wood leaves the wood with a smooth surface. Planing across (or against) the grain leaves a rougher surface.

A 2-dimensional flat surface that extends forever.
A two-dimensional geometric figure that is completely flat.
Level surface. Used in photography chiefly in respect to focal plane, an imaginary level surface perpendicular to the lens axis in which the lens is intended to form an image. When the camera is loaded the focal plane is occupied by the film surface.
A flat surface that stretches into infinity.
Erroneous Idea of Imaginary Flat Area Reaching Out to Infinity

An imaginary, inifinitly large surface extending in all directions. Modeling the Earth-Sun System )
This term refers to the plane that you studied in high school geometry. A fractal image is a visualization of a mathematical algorithm, applied to the points on a portion of the plane. Ray Tracing: A description of this technique for rendering three dimensional scenes is covered in About Digital Art, with links to a detailed explanation. Render: The actual process whereby the computer calculates the colors of each pixel in the image. The colored pixels are saved as data in a file. A rendered image suitable for printing will contain millions of pixels and the rendering process can take from a few seconds to several hours. Square Function: The square function simply takes a number and multiplies it by itself. So, the square of is the square of is The square of a complex number x+iy is ( x + iy)ยท( x + iy) which is equal to x2 - y2 + 2ixy.
A region of space defined by a minimum of three noncoincident points in space. For the simplest type of plane surface, all points can be described by two coordinate axes; that is, the plane has no curvature.
This hand tool's sole function is to smooth and form wood. Although there are many specialized planes for furniture-making and other tasks, a smoothing plane and a block plane will suffice for most DIY projects. Home Improvement Encyclopedia
A flat (2 dimensional) surface
Latin planus = flat; hence, a real or imaginary flat surface.

In mathematics, a plane is a fundamental two-dimensional object. Intuitively, it may be visualized as a flat infinite sheet of paper. There are several definitions of the plane, equivalent in the sense of Euclidean geometry, but which can be extended in different ways to define objects in other areas of mathematics.
