See Yaw control.
It seems every manufacturer has its own acronym (such as ESP, DSC or VCT) to describe similar electronic systems that help stop a car sliding sideways through a corner. A complex array of sensors monitor wheel slippage, steering angles and the car's amount of yaw to determine if a car is sliding. Then the car will individually brake wheels to help reduce the slide and regain control. Keen drivers reckon it interferes with their skills, but for most of us it is literally a life saver.
