The area from which most airborne particles emanate. The Chesapeake Bay's airshed extends west as far as Ohio.
an area delineated by topographic or meteorological characteristics within which admitted pollutants interact
a term denoting a geographical area of which, because of topography, meteorology, and climate, shares the same air (see Air Basins)
a body of air, bounded by meteorology and topography, in which a contaminant, once emitted, is contained
an area covered by a volume of air with similar characteristics and separated from other volumes of air by weather patterns, topography, or distance
a part of the atmosphere that behaves in a coherent way with respect to the dispersion of emissions
A geographic area, usually containing some significant atmospheric emission sources. The boundary of the area is determined largely by characteristic trajectories followed by parcels of polluted air due to interaction of synoptic-scale winds and local winds (eg sea breezes, valley winds and winds steered by topographic features). Characteristic trajectories can include recirculation and oscillatory patterns of airflow. These lead to accumulation of air pollutants and also increase the time pollutants are resident in the airshed. The increased residence time is especially significant for secondary air pollutants such as ozone.
a body of air bounded by topographical and/or meteorological features in which a contaminant, once emitted. is contained
a geographical region with some sort of natural boundaries which demonstrates common production and exchange of air pollutants.
A volume of air overlying a distinct geographic region
a body of air bounded by topography and meteorology in which a contaminant, once emitted, is contained for a period of time
a geographic area that, because of topography, meteorology, and/or climate, is frequently affected by the same air mass.
Body of air situated within an area surrounded by topographical features (e.g. a mountain range) and/or meteorological features (e.g. the lower atmosphere) in which an emission is contained.
A geographic area that shares the same air mass due to topography, meteorology, and climate. ( FEMAT, IX-2)
An area or region defined by settlement patterns or geology that results in discrete atmospheric conditions.
The term has been used to describe those areas where significant portions of air emissions result in the deposition of various air pollutants to specific land or water areas. The airshed may be substantially larger than the watershed.
