Definitions for "Convention on Biological Diversity"
An international agreement (under the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP). Its objectives are "the conservation of biological diversity, the sustainable use of its components and the fair and equitable sharing of the benefits arising out of the utilisation of genetic resources". Under one part of the Convention, the Biosafety Protocol, countries are currently discussing procedures to deal with the concerns about the potential risks to biodiversity and human health posed by living modified organisms.
