Construction term referring to metal or wood plates used to connect the rafters, studs and beams in a truss roof. Gusset plates offer additional support, instead of simply nailing two beams together. For example, gusset plates are used in truss roofs at the corners where rafters connect to each other or where rafters connect to the lower chord.
