Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis. The most common rheumatic disease of childhood: it is typically diagnosed in children who are less than 16 years old who have arthritis in one or more joints that lasts for 6 or more weeks. There are three major types of JRA: pauciarticular (meaning it affects only a few joints), polyarticular (meaning it affects many joints), and systemic JRA (arthritis associated with high fevers and rash). Within the last few years, a new classification scheme, called JIA (Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis), has been proposed, including all of JRA and additional types of childhood arthritis.
