Lamb of God (Latin: Agnus Dei) is one of the titles given to Jesus in the New Testament and consequently in the Christian tradition. It is believed to refer to Jesus' role as a sacrificial lamb atoning for the sins of man in Christian theology, harkening back to ancient Jewish Temple sacrifices in which a lamb was slain during the passover, the blood was sprinkled along the door, and the lamb was eaten.
Lamb of God is a Grammy-nominated five-piece groove metal / metalcore band from Richmond, Virginia, formerly known as Burn the Priest. Although typically labeled as said genre, vocalist Randy Blythe has said in regards to the band's genre: "we will always be a thrash metal band, but we just want to see what we can achieve within that genre," on the internet heavy metal TV show "Metal Injection." Over the past several years, Lamb of God have become a highly influential band in the current metal scene.
