(1) Nanna is a moon goddess in Norse mythology, the daughter of Nep and wife of Baldur. She and Baldur are both Aesir and live together in Briedablik in Asgard. With Baldur, she was the mother of Forseti and Brono. When Baldur was slain by Hod, she was overcome with grief and threw herself onto her husband's funeral pyre on his ship Hringhorn. (2) Nanna is a god in Sumerian mythology, god of the moon, son of Enlil and Ninlil. His sacred city was Ur. He was named Sin by the Babylonians and was also worshipped by them in Harran. His wife was Ningal ('Great Lady') who bore him Utu 'Sun' and Inana and in some texts Ishkur.
