An assembly of ribosomes actively translating the same mRNA strand into polypeptide chains.
a cluster of ribosomes connected by a strand of messenger RNA and functioning as a unit in protein synthesis.
aggregation of ribosomes.
A complex consisting of a threadlike molecule of messenger RNA and several (or many) ribosomes. The ribosomes move along the mRNA, synthesizing polypeptide chains as they proceed.
a group of several ribosomes attached to the same single mRNA molecule.
Polyribosomes are a cluster of ribosomes, bound to an m RNA molecule, first discovered and characterized by Jonathan Warner, Paul Knopf, and Alex Rich in 1963 http://www.garfield.library.upenn.edu/classics1977/A1977DV63600002.pdf. Polyribosomes read this mRNA simultaneously, helping to synthesize the same protein at different spots on the mRNA. mRNA being the "messenger" in the process of protein synthesis.
