Keywords:  parser, parse, lookahead, lexer, yacc
A "shift" is an action performed by a parsing engine when it reads a token that is valid in the current state. Lookahead parsers maintain a list of terminals which are expected to be read from each state, given that the syntax of the program is correct. If the token is not the expected, a syntax error occurs. In the bottom-up parser engines, such as GOLD and YACC, a shift pushes the token onto an internal stack that is used to hold tokens that are being used to construct completed rules.
A shift action in a parser is one that accepts the input symbol read by the lexer and causes a transition to a new state. The current state is added to the parse stack.
A parser is said to shift when it makes the choice of analyzing further input from the stream rather than reducing immediately some already-recognized rule. See The Bison Parser Algorithm.
The movement of a type A influenza virus strain from other species into humans. The novel strain emerges by reassortment with circulating human influenza strains or by infecting humans directly. Because they flourish in the face of global susceptibility, viruses that have undergone antigenic shift usually create pandemics. Sibutramine: It is used for weight loss.
The process in which the existing H (hemagglutinin) and N (neuraminidase) are replaced by significantly different H and Ns. These new H or H/N combinations are perceived by human immune systems as new, so most people do not have pre-existing antibody protection to these novel viruses. This is one of the reasons that pandemic viruses can have such a serve impact on the health of populations. See drift.
