This is a condition whereby a dry solid material entraps air, frequently causing the material to act as a fluid in its behavior, often resulting in uncontrollable flushing through the metering mechanism and/or its supply hopper. Aeration is usually caused by product having been conveyed pneumatically (usually into a storage hopper), or the use of a gas purging system in the product containment zone.
