(BCD). Binary coded decimal (BCD) is a coding scheme for the storage of data. The code was originally four-bit and latterly six-bit and later extended to become IBM's EBDIC.
Describing a decimal notation in which the individual decimal digits are represented by a group of binary bits, e.g., in the 8 4 2 1 coded decimal notation each decimal digit is represented by a group of four binary bits.
