Definitions for "Compactness"
The degree to which the territory assigned to a district is close together. There are several mathematical ways to measure the elements of compactness.
Having the minimum distance between all parts of a constituency (a circle or a large hexagon is the most compact district).
A traditional districting principle; the ideal being a district with every point along its boundary being of equal distance from its center. A circle is the most compact shape for a district.
Diamonds provide a highly compact store of wealth or value, which makes them easy to conceal, transport, store, or smuggle.
