Definitions for "Cooperative Extension Service"
(also called “extension”)— A federal-state-local education system that provides continuing adult education based on the academic programs of the land grant colleges of agriculture (in Ohio , that’s Ohio State University ). About half of extension’s education programs focus on agriculture and natural resources, one-quarter on youth development (including 4-H), and the balance on home economics and community resource development. Those who perform these education programs are officially called “extension educators,” but they are also informally known as “extension agents” since that was their title for many years. In Ohio , this program is called Ohio State University Extension.
