One of two agreements signed on May 26, 1972, known collectively as SALT I (the other is the ABM Treaty). The Interim Agreement froze the number of ICBM and SLBM launchers at existing levels (1,710 for the United States and 2,347 for the Soviet Union).
an agreement in effect until the final determination of the patent litigation
An agreement that derives its name from its position in longer term negotiation. It records matters agreed to along the path to a final agreement. Some or most of the matters will be of a temporary nature intended to be superseded by the envisaged final agreement. The agreement may also record matters agreed to in principle, which will be fully defined in a final draft. This latter type of interim agreement may also be known as a draft agreement.
