A gold coin formerly current in England, of the value of ten shillings sterling in the reign of Henry VI., and of fifteen shillings in the reign of Elizabeth.
A Spanish coin which the English mint valued at 6ΒΌ pence during the 17th century. Eight rial equaled a Spanish dollar, or piece of eight, worth 4s. 6d. in England, although it was worth more in the colonies. Also spelled Real.
