n. generic term for all persons convicted of crimes involving sex, including rape, molestation, sexual harassment and pornography production or distribution. In most states convicted sex offenders are supposed to report to local police authorities, but many do not.
An offender who has committed a sex felony (I.e., Rape 1, 2, 3; Rape of a Child 1, 2, 3; Child Molestation 1, 2, 3; Sexual misconduct with a Minor 1, 2; Indecent Liberties; Incest), a criminal attempt, criminal solicitation, or criminal conspiracy to commit such crimes; a felony with a finding of sexual motivation; any federal or out-of-state conviction for an offense that under laws of the state of Washington would be a felony classified as a sex offense.
Someone who has been convicted of a sex crime
A sex offender is a person who has been criminally charged and convicted of, or has pled guilty to, a sex crime. As a label of identity it is used in criminal psychology. Especially in the United States and the United Kingdom, the person, if convicted, is most likely required to register with the respective jurisdiction's sex offender registry.
