A request by a receiver, for the transmitter to retransmit a data block in which errors have been detected.
A communications feature where the receiver asks the transmitter to resend a block or frame because errors were detected by the receiver.
RAS message sent as an admission request.
An H.323 message from an H.323 endpoint to an H.323 gatekeeper, requesting the IP address of a remote device.
Admission repeat request.
See Automatic Repeat reQuest.
automatic repeat request; a mode to compare transmission; a repeat signal is sent only when requested by the receiving station
Automatic Request for Reception. A complex method of error correction in Data Communications. It is not suitable for Sea Cadet General Data Broadcasts, as only two connected stations will benefit from the full error correction. As a rule therefore, FEC is the SCC system of choice.
A link layer protocol that provide reliable data transmission by retransmits link layer frames.
Automatic Repeat Request. An error detection and correction technique based on the transmission of data in discrete packets. A decoder in the receiver detects errors but cannot correct them. Instead it sends a retransmission request to the transmitter which then repeats the transmission.
Automatic ReQuest for retransmission. A type of communications link where the receiver asks the transmitter to re-send a block of data when errors are detected.
An error-control technique that requires retransmission of a data block that contains detected errors. A special form, called "go-back-n," allows multiple blocks to be acknowledged with a single response. "Stop and wait" requires an acknowledgment after each block.
Admission Request (H.323).
Admissions Request Query RAS Message. This message type is sent from an H.323 endpoint to an H.323 gateway.
An error-control system in which a request for re-transmission is generated by the receiver when an error in transmission is detected.
Automatic Retransmission Request. ARQ is an application layer error correction technique that identifies errors in frames of transmitted data and automatically requests retransmission of the erred frames.
ADMISSIONS REQUEST Message - A RAS message send by an endpoint placing a call or an endpoint receiving a call asking for bandwidth allowance and permission to continue the Call Setup.
The error correction process used in store-and-forward messaging by which a receiver checks for errors in received data packets and requests the sending end to re-transmit any packets which were received containing an error.
Automatic Repeat Request. A general term for error correction protocols which feature error detection and automatic re-transmission of defective blocks of data.
Automatic Repeat Request. A general term for error control protocols featuring hardware detection and retransmission of defective data. This term is used primarily by US Robotics.
Automatic Repeat-reQuest (ARQ) is an error control method for data transmission which makes use of acknowledgments and timeouts to achieve reliable data transmission. An acknowledgment is a message sent by the receiver to the transmitter to indicate that it has correctly received a data frame.
