A teaching process in which students gain mastery over a specific set of skills by executing training programs on a computer. CAI is very effective for computer applications training. Also called CBT.
Use of a computer as a medium of instruction for tutorial, drill and practice, simulation, or games. CAI is used for both initial and remedial training, and typically does not require that a computer be connected to a network or provide links to learning resources outside of the course.
Student receives instruction from the computer rather than the teacher. The computer can present new information and guided practice on a wide range of subject matter.
Self-contained instructional software programs that students use to supplement or replace traditional teacher-directed instructional methods.
The use of computers to aid in the delivery of instruction in which the system allows for remediation based on answers but not for a change in the underlying program structure.
Instruction supported through the use of software or other technology-based tools.
Synonymous with computerbased training or instruction emphasizing the point that the instructor is responsible for the class and uses the computer to assist in the instruction.
The use of computers in some form for instruction, such as drill-and-practice in foreign languages.
