Definitions for "Divisionism"
A French artistic tendency also known as Neo-Impressionism. This nineteenth century French and Italian technical procedure used by Divisionist painters who used tiny brush strokes of pure color, kept separate. This Divisionist technique was used to investigate reality and to represent literary and allegorical themes in their artwork.
Another name for pointillism, a painting style preferred by the neo-impressionists, such as Georges Seurat.
A painting technique, which involves an optical analysis of light and colour. It is characterized by the juxtaposition of dabs, lines and small circles of colour, which are then recombined by the retina of the eye (pointillism).
