In typography, a dash that is equal in length to an en, one half the width of the capital letter M in the typeface being used. It is a short dash slightly longer than a hyphen. An en dash is used in place of the words "to" or "through" to show ranges, as in 1890-1900, July 1-July 31, or Pages 14-23.
