Mayhem is a black metal band formed in 1983 in Oslo, Norway. The name "Mayhem" is derived from the title of the Venom song, "Mayhem With Mercy". Much controversy has followed the various murders, suicides and other forms of violence that have surrounded the band since its inception.
Mayhem is a collection of previously unreleased material consisting mostly of demos and tracks not included on previous albums. When Toyah left Safari Records, the record company found enough material to compile one last album; this was apparently done without the consent of the band members. In spite of that, it was well-received by the band's fans.
The maiming of a person by depriving him of the use of any of his members which are necessary for defense or protection. See Maim.
