Definitions for "Post and lintel"
a structure consisting of vertical beams (posts) supporting a horizontal beam (lintel)
A very basic and primitive construction technique in which two vertical elements (posts) support a horizontal element (a lintel). The ancient monument of Stone Henge is a graphic example of posts supporting lintels.
Simplest building system. It consists of two upright posts or pillars, that are topped with a single stone beam or lintel. The advantage to the post and lintel system is it's simplicity, however the posts must be placed close together or the stone lintel will break. (ATA fig. 3-12, 5-28) [image
