airplane powered by a turbojet engine
jet engine in which a turbine drives air to the burner
a little different from the other engines considered in this section because it is mainly intended to generate thrust
Gas turbine in which the exhaust gases deliver the thrust
simple gas turbine with compressor, combustion chamber, turbine, and propulsive nozzle
engine most commonly used in high-speed, high-altitude aircraft.
Turbojets are the simplest and oldest kind of general purpose jet engines. Two different engineers, Frank Whittle in the United Kingdom and Hans von Ohain in Germany, developed the concept independently during the late 1930s.
