a sandstone containing more than 10% feldspar (usually orthoclase) grains.
A sandstone which contains 25% or more feldspar grains, derived from granitic sources. Arkosic is the adjective.
Red to brown, medium-to coarse-grained, sandstone-like, sedimentary rock containing quartz, feldspar, and rock fragments. It is the most common sedimentary rock of the Central Lowlands; locally known as brownstone. Brownstone was quarried for use as building stone.
A sandstone that contains at least 25% feldspar. Easily recognized because the feldspar grains are typically pink and angular in shape.
A feldspar -rich sandstone, typically coarse grained and pink or red in color, derived from the rapid disentigration of granite or granitic rocks which often resembles them. Quartz is the main mineral and feldspar making up at least 25%. Also included is the matrix material including clay and iron oxide which gives it a reddish coloring.
a sandstone containing 10% or more clastic grains of feldspar. Also called arkosic sandstone, feldspathic sandstone.
sedimentary rock composed of eroded igneous rock of granular texture that has been cemented together.
a sandstone that is rich in unweathered or slightly weathered feldspar
Sandstone containing feldspar grains in abundance.
Feldspar-rich (usually greater than 25%) sandstone that is not well-sorted.
Arkose (IPA: ) is a detrital sedimentary rock containing roughly 60% quartz sand and 25% feldspar, typically grey to reddish in colour. The sand may range from fine to very coarse, but tends toward the coarser end of the scale. Arkose usually contains small amounts of calcite cement, which causes it to effervesce slightly in dilute hydrochloric acid; sometimes the cement also contains iron oxide.
