Short for Full Common Intermediate Format, itÂâ€(tm)s a videoconferencing format that specifies data rates of 30 frames per second (fps), with each frame containing 288 lines and 352 pixels per line. QCIF is one quarter of the resolution of FCIF. 4CIF (576 lines with 704 pixels/line) is four times the resolution of FCIF and is used for wide-screen videoconferencing. 16CIF is sixteen times the resolution of FCIF with 1152 horizontal lines at 1408 pixels/line. This format is comparable to high-definition television (HDTV) and is similar to MPEG-2 in quality.
