Definitions for "Federally Qualified Health Center"
Community clinics that provide most of their care to Medi- Cal patients and the uninsured. Federal law requires Medi- Cal to reimburse FQHC and FQHC “look alikes” at their reasonable and necessary costs for care to Medi-Cal Patients.
FQHC services are primary care and other ambulatory care services provided by community health centers and migrant health centers funded under section 330 of the Public Health Service Act, as well as by "look alike" health clinics that meet the requirements for federal funding but do not actually receive federal grants. FQHCs must provide services without regard to ability to pay. States are required to include FQHC services in their basic Medicaid benefit package.
