The Frankfurt urban area, which extends beyond the city boundaries, had an estimated population of 1,468,140 in 2000. The city is at the center of the larger Frankfurt Rhine Main Area which has a population of 5 million and is Germany's second largest metropolitan area.
Frankfurt is a city in Brandenburg, Germany located on the Oder River, on the German-Polish border directly opposite the town of Słubice which was a part of Frankfurt until 1945. At the end of the 1980s the city had its population climax with more than 87,000 inhabitants. The number droped below 70,000 in 2002 and is expected to reach 58,000 in 2010.
