The Media Access Control layer of networking - in other words, the circuitry (usually a network interface card) that manages access to the physical layer of the network. This is typically the cable or fibre but can also refer to a wireless link.

Abbreviation for Media Access Control layer. The lower of two sub layers that make up the data-link layer in the ISO/OSI reference model. The MAC layer manages access to the physical network, so a protocol like Ethernet works at this layer.

Media Access Control sublayer. Controls access by the cable access router to the CMTS and to the upstream data slots.

A sub-layer of the Data Link Layer (Level Two) of the ISO OSI Model responsible for media control.

Media access control layer. The sublayer of the data link layer that is responsible for taking the information from the logical link sublayer above it and preparing the final packet of a frame so it can go out onto the physical media.
