Agreements between agencies to assist in times of need. An agency must first commit its own resources prior to asking for assistance.
A spontaneous request for apparatus and/or manpower from another department to assist in managing an incident. The concept of mutual aid in firefighting was first put into practice in the Finger Lakes Region of western New York. Mutual aid companies can be sent directly to a scene or to cover another department's station. (see Fill-in)
Describes an agreement between neighboring emerency response agencies wherein any request for additional help is answered. Two agencies may be alerted to calls for service that are near or on the borders of the agencies respective first due areas.
